RAID Compressor Operator Course
Gain essential technical knowledge with the RAID Compressor Operator course. This program teaches the safe operation, maintenance, and use of high-pressure compressor units (200-300 bar) for filling scuba tanks with breathing air. It provides the skills needed to manage air supply reliably for diving activities.
The course includes online theory covering compressor mechanics, safety protocols, and tank filling procedures, combined with practical sessions at a dive center for hands-on experience.
Benefits of the RAID Compressor Operator
The RAID Compressor Operator enhances diving logistics and technical understanding. Benefits include:
- Operational Proficiency: Learn to safely operate and maintain high-pressure compressors for consistent breathing air supply.
- Safety Focus: Master protocols to prevent risks during filling and maintenance.
- Support Capability: Enable independent or team-based air management for personal dives or dive center operations.
- Foundation for Advancement: Serves as a prerequisite for courses like Gas Blender.
Prerequisites
Participants must meet these standards:
- Minimum age: 16 years.
- No prior diving certification required.
- Complete standard RAID forms, including liability release and safe diving practices, via the User Portal (medical questionnaire if applicable; physician approval for any health concerns).
Course Structure
The course is conducted by a certified RAID instructor and combines online theory with practical sessions:
1. Academic Development
Self-paced on the RAID FREe-Learning platform. Includes downloadable manuals on compressor types, operation, maintenance, safety, and tank filling. Complete quizzes and exam.
2. Practical Sessions
At a dive center, involving supervised operation, tank filling (including cylinder inspection and verification), and troubleshooting. Some programs require a minimum number of supervised filling hours.
No in-water dives required; focus is on surface equipment handling.
Skills emphasize real-world application, safe ascents, and adaptation to deeper environments.
Duration
- Theory: Self-paced online.
- Practical: Flexible, scheduled with the dive center; duration varies based on hands-on requirements.
- Certification applies to safe operation of high-pressure compressors for scuba tank filling worldwide.
Equipment Provided
Dive centers provide access to compressor units and related equipment for training. No personal scuba gear needed.
Certification
Successful completion earns a permanent electronic certification (e-card) from RAID, downloadable from the portal. This recognizes proficiency in operating high-pressure compressors and filling scuba tanks safely.
