RAID Oxygen Administration Course
The RAID Oxygen Provider course (also known as Oxygen Administration) is a non-diving specialty program that trains participants in recognizing dive-related injuries and administering emergency oxygen. It covers the assembly and use of oxygen delivery systems, safety protocols, and integration with first aid procedures.
This course is applicable to divers and non-divers, emphasizing rapid response to decompression illness, near-drowning, and other oxygen-treatable emergencies.
Benefits of the RAID Oxygen Administration Course
- Recognize signs and symptoms of dive-related injuries requiring oxygen.
- Assemble and deploy various oxygen delivery systems effectively.
- Administer oxygen safely using masks, demand valves, and non-rebreathers.
- Understand oxygen handling, storage, and fire prevention risks.
- Enhance response capabilities in diving emergencies.
- Support professional medical care until arrival.
- Prerequisite for many advanced RAID leadership and professional courses.
Prerequisites
- No minimum age or prior diving certification required.
- Open to divers and non-divers.
- Completion of a medical questionnaire (physician approval required for certain conditions).
- Standard RAID forms, including liability release and safe diving practices agreement, via the RAID User Portal.
- For minors (under 18): Parental or guardian consent and signature on required forms.
Course Structure
The course combines online theory with a short practical session conducted at a dive center:
1. Academic Development
Completed via RAID’s online FREe-Learning platform. Topics include:
- Types of oxygen delivery systems and their use.
- Recognition of decompression illness, arterial gas embolism, and hypoxia.
- Safety protocols for oxygen handling.
- Emergency procedures and integration with first aid. Students access digital manuals, complete quizzes, and pass a final exam at their own pace.
2. Practical Session
Hands-on training:
- Assembly, disassembly, and deployment of oxygen equipment.
- Simulation of administration techniques.
Duration and Depth Limits
- Theory: Self-paced online (typically 2-4 hours).
- Practical session: Short in-person (1-2 hours).
- No diving required; all training is surface-based.
Equipment Provided
The dive center provides oxygen kits, including cylinders, regulators, masks, and delivery devices for practical training.
No personal equipment required.
Certification
Upon successful completion of academics and practical skills, students receive a globally recognized electronic certification (e-card) issued by RAID. The certification is permanent and downloadable from the RAID portal. It qualifies participants to administer emergency oxygen in diving-related incidents.
