RAID Performance Diver Course
The RAID Performance Diver course is a specialty program focused on refining core diving skills for improved safety, efficiency, and adaptability in any diving environment or equipment configuration. It emphasizes buoyancy control, trim, propulsion techniques, line laying, emergency procedures, and task management. The program can be conducted in pool, confined water, or open water settings using modified recreational gear, sidemount, twinset, or rebreather.
This course is suitable for divers at all levels, from beginners building foundational skills to experienced ones honing advanced techniques.
Benefits of the RAID Performance Diver Course
- Achieve precise buoyancy control to enhance stability and reduce environmental impact.
- Master trim and propulsion methods (e.g., frog kick, helicopter turn) for air conservation and manoeuvrability.
- Learn line laying for navigation and safety in challenging conditions.
- Develop emergency response and self-rescue protocols.
- Improve task loading management to maintain focus and control.
- Enhance overall dive performance, safety, and enjoyment across various scenarios.
- Applicable to recreational, technical, or professional diving paths.
Prerequisites
- Minimum age: 15 years (with parent/guardian approval); 18 years for rebreather training.
- Certified as RAID Open Water 20 or equivalent from a recognized agency.
- Completion of a medical questionnaire (physician approval required for certain conditions).
- Standard RAID forms, including liability release and safe diving practices agreement, via the RAID User Portal.
- For minors (15-17): Parental or guardian consent and signature on required forms.
Course Structure
The course combines online theory with practical training conducted by a certified RAID Instructor:
1. Academic Development
Completed via RAID’s online FREe-Learning platform. Topics include:
- Buoyancy and weighting optimization.
- Trim, propulsion, and finning techniques.
- Line deployment and management.
- Emergency procedures and ascent protocols.
- Task loading and stress management. Students access digital manuals, complete quizzes, and pass a final exam at their own pace.
2. Practical Sessions
Hands-on skill development:
- Confined water or pool exercises for technique refinement.
- Open water application in real scenarios.
Duration and Depth Limits
- Theory: Self-paced online (typically 4-6 hours).
- Practical sessions: Typically 1-2 days, including multiple confined and open water sessions.
- No specific depth limits; adheres to student's current certification limits.
Equipment Provided
The dive center typically supplies rental scuba gear, including BCD, regulator, tanks, weights, buoyancy aids, lift bags, and line reels.
Participants can bring personal items, dive log, and certification card.
Certification
Upon successful completion of academics and practical skills, students receive a globally recognized electronic certification (e-card) issued by RAID. The certification is permanent and downloadable from the RAID portal. It recognizes enhanced performance skills applicable worldwide.
