RAID Twinset Diver Course
The RAID Twinset Diver course is a specialty program that trains certified divers in the safe use of a twinset configuration, consisting of two cylinders connected by a manifold with an isolation valve. This setup offers increased gas volume, built-in redundancy through isolatable cylinders, improved balance, and streamlined equipment management.
The course focuses on configuration, pre-dive checks, valve management, buoyancy and trim optimization, propulsion techniques, and emergency procedures, preparing divers for extended recreational dives and as a foundation for technical training.
Benefits of the RAID Twinset Diver Course
- Provides greater gas supply for extended bottom times on recreational dives
- Introduces redundancy with manifold isolation for handling gas supply issues
- Improves horizontal trim, stability, and efficiency in the water
- Enhances valve access and gas management skills
- Reduces surface handling difficulties compared to single cylinders
- Develops emergency protocols specific to twinset configuration
- Serves as a prerequisite for RAID technical decompression and overhead environment courses
Prerequisites
- Minimum age: 15 years
- Certified as RAID Open Water 20 diver or equivalent from a recognized agency
- Completion of the standard RAID medical questionnaire (certain conditions may require physician approval)
- Signing of liability release and safe diving practices agreement forms
Participants must complete or update all required RAID forms via the RAID User Portal.
Course Structure
The course is conducted by a certified RAID Twinset instructor and combines self-paced online theory with practical water sessions:
1. Academic Development Completed via RAID’s online FREe-Learning platform. Topics include:
- Twinset equipment selection, rigging, and configuration
- Pre-dive checks and manifold functionality
- Gas management and contingency planning
- Buoyancy, trim, and propulsion adaptations for twinsets
- Valve drills, isolation procedures, and emergency responses Students access digital manuals, complete quizzes, and pass a final exam.
2. Equipment Orientation
Detailed setup and adjustment of twinset system, including manifold, regulators, backplate, and wing.
3. Practical Water Sessions
- Confined water training: Skill development in valve management, trim, and basic drills
- Open water training: Minimum of four dives applying twinset techniques in real conditions Skills emphasize safe handling, gas sharing, failure simulations, and streamlined movement.
Duration and Format
- Theory: Self-paced online (typically 4-6 hours)
- Practical sessions: Usually completed over 2 days, including confined water and at least four open water dives
- Overall program: Flexible, focused on achieving proficiency
Equipment Provided
During training, the dive center typically supplies all required scuba equipment, including:
- Twinset cylinders with manifold
- Regulator systems (primary and backup)
- Backplate and wing buoyancy system
- Weights
Certification
Upon successful completion of the academics, practical skills, and instructor sign-offs, students receive a globally recognized electronic certification (e-card) issued by RAID. The certification is permanent and downloadable from the RAID portal. It qualifies divers to conduct no-decompression dives using twinset configuration within their existing depth and experience limits.
Next Steps to Enroll
1. Create a free account on the RAID User Portal: https://user.diveraid.com
2. Purchase the Twinset Diver course materials in the RAID Store and access them via https://diveraid.com/twinset-diver/.
3. Contact the center to book, discuss fees, and schedule your session. The center will unlock training materials, conduct the program, and handle any recognition.
The RAID Twinset Diver certification enables divers to utilize twinset configuration for safer, longer recreational dives and provides essential preparation for advanced technical training programs.
