RAID Indoor Diver Course
The RAID Indoor Diver course is an entry-level certification program that delivers the complete Open Water curriculum in a controlled indoor environment, such as a heated pool or aquarium. All practical training occurs in confined water, with no open water dives required. This course is designed for individuals who prefer a comfortable, temperature-controlled setting or have limited access to open water sites. It provides full preparation for autonomous diving within indoor facilities.
The certification allows independent diving (with a qualified buddy) in indoor environments only. It does not permit diving in open water. An upgrade path exists to the full Open Water 20 certification by completing additional theory and four open water dives.
Age-specific variations include:
- Cadet Indoor Diver: Ages 10-12
- Junior Indoor Diver: Ages 12-14
- Standard Indoor Diver: Ages 15 and up
Certified Indoor Divers may dive with a buddy of equal or higher certification and similar experience. For Junior and Cadet levels, dives must include adult supervision.
Benefits of the RAID Indoor Diver Course
- Covers the full Open Water theory and essential skills, including equipment use, buoyancy control, safety procedures, and dive planning.
- Enables autonomous diving (with a buddy) in indoor environments immediately upon certification.
- Maximum depth: 18 meters (60 feet) for adults; 12 meters (40 feet) for Junior and Cadet certifications.
- Ideal for cold-sensitive divers, beginners seeking a relaxed introduction, or those in locations without easy open water access.
- Serves as a complete stand-alone certification or foundation for upgrading to Open Water 20.
Prerequisites
- Minimum age: 10 years (with age-specific variations as noted above).
- No prior scuba experience required.
- Ability to swim and feel comfortable in water (specific tests may include a 200-300 meter swim and 10-minute float, depending on regional standards).
- Completion of a medical questionnaire. Certain conditions require physician approval.
- For minors (under 18): Parental or guardian consent and signature on required forms.
- Required personal items: Swimsuit and towel (all scuba equipment provided by the dive center).
Participants must complete standard RAID forms, including a liability release and safe diving practices agreement, typically online via the RAID User Portal.
